Before You Pray

1. Opening Takbir

Allahu Akbar

Allah is the Greatest

2. Surah Al-Fatihah

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem

In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate

Alhamdu lillahi rabbil alameen

All praise is for Allah, the Lord of all worlds

Ar Rahmanir Raheem

The Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate

Maliki yawmid deen

Master of the Day of Judgment

Iyyaka naabudu wa iyyaka nastaeen

You alone we worship and You alone we ask for help

Ihdinas siratal mustaqeem

Guide us to the straight path

Siratal ladeena anamta alayhim

The path of those You have blessed

Ghayril maghdubi alayhim wa laddalleen

Not the path of those who earned Your anger, nor those who went astray

3. Short Surah (Example – Al Ikhlas)

Qul huwallahu ahad

Say: He is Allah, the One

Allahu samad

Allah is the One all depend on

Lam yalid wa lam yoolad

He does not give birth, nor was He born

Wa lam yakullahu kufuwan ahad

And there is none comparable to Him

4. Bowing (Ruku)

Say while moving into Ruku:

Allahu Akbar

Allah is the Greatest

Then say 3 times:

Subhana Rabbiyal Azeem

Glory be to my Lord, the Most Great

5. Standing After Ruku

Samiallahu liman hamidah

Rabbana lakal hamd

6. First Sujood

Allahu Akbar

Then say 3 times:

Subhana Rabbiyal Ala

Glory be to my Lord, the Most High

7. Sitting Between the Two Sujoods

Allahu Akbar

Then say 3 times:

Rabbighfir li

8. Second Sujood

Allahu Akbar

Then say 3 times:

Subhana Rabbiyal Ala

9. After the Second Sujood

Say:

Allahu Akbar

If you still have another rak'ah, stand up and repeat steps 2–10.

If this is your final rak'ah, remain seated and continue to the Final Tashahhud below.

Final Sitting (Tashahhud and Salawat)

Attahiyyatu lillahi was salawatu wattayyibat

All greetings, prayers, and pure words are for Allah

Assalamu alayka ayyuhan nabiyyu wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh

Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy and blessings of Allah

Assalamu alayna wa ala ibadillahi saliheen

Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah

Ashhadu alla ilaha illallah

I bear witness that there is no god but Allah

Wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan abduhu wa rasuluh

And I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger

Allahumma salli ala Muhammadin wa ala aali Muhammadin kama sallayta ala Ibraheema wa ala aali Ibraheema innaka Hameedun Majeed

O Allah, send prayers upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad as You sent prayers upon Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious.

Allahumma barik ala Muhammadin wa ala aali Muhammadin kama barakta ala Ibraheema wa ala aali Ibraheema innaka Hameedun Majeed

O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad as You blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious.

Allahumma inni aoodhu bika min adhaabil qabri wa min adhaabi jahannam wa min fitnatil mahya wal mamaat wa min sharri fitnatil maseehid dajjal

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave, from the punishment of Hellfire, from the trials of life and death, and from the evil of the trial of the False Messiah (Dajjal).

Ending the Prayer (Salam)

Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullah

Turn your head to the right.

Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullah

Turn your head to the left.
